Weekend 1: The Walkthrough

It’s our first weekend as new home owners, and we decided to take ‘before’ photos so we can look back to see how far we have come. But first I would like to tell the ‘Property Brothers’ to eat their hearts out. We got our 1948, 1900 square foot home with 4 bedrooms and 1 bath for only $29K. This older home went on the market in April of 2012 at $54900, slightly under the estimated appraisal value. The price dropped $5K every month until we stumbled across it in August. The asking price at that time was $54,500. After a bit of negotiation, we purchased the home and nearly 3 acres of land for only $29K. It needs major renovations, but we had been looking at $80K homes that needed complete overhauls thanks to previous owners who decided to completely destroy the home before the bank took possession of it. Not that I blame them, but when you are looking for a fixer-upper, the last thing you want to do is spend just as much on renovating a space as the space cost you in the first place. After four years, I think we did more than well for ourselves.
